“Meet the Band: Brendan Provenzale (bass, vocals), Pat Fleming (guitar, vocals), Ryan Fletterick (guitar), Kelsey Etters (drums).

straight outta tha basement: The band came together a year ago when Provenzale wanted to start a side project with Fleming. When his “other band“ split up, the Erienauts formed. Provenzale had had a “small basement project“ with Fleming years ago and thinks of Erienauts as a continuation of that. “We all listen to slightly different things but respect what everyone likes,“ he explains. “It just comes out right.“

he’s just a singer in a rock ‘n’ roll band: The band’s Reverb Nation page bio simply says, “Erienauts is a rock and roll band from Cleveland, Ohio.“ “We keep it minimal,“ says Provenzale. “We’re not into that elaborate stuff. We never leave a show without completely sweating through our shirts and possibly smashing a guitar.“ Provenzale cites At the Drive In and Refused as inspirations. “I think Fear Before the March of Flames is great,“ he says. “At one show, they broke two guitars and had the show shut down. This was at the `{`now closed`}` Odeon. It was just amazing.“

why you should hear them: A great guitar riff runs through the noisy Pixies-like “Washed Up“ and “Teenaged“ has a ’80s feel to it. Recorded at Bad Racket, the songs on the band’s self-titled debut have pop melodies that shine through despite the band’s noisy impulses. “I grew up on Motown and things like that,“ says Provenzale. “But I got Nirvana’s Nevermind, and I really dig all that stuff. We do a Sam Cooke cover and a Nirvana cover every once in a while. I also like the way Elliott Smith would present his lyrics in a pretty fashion but they were about darker subjects.“ Provenzale says the band’s already written material for its next album.
