Cleveland Recording Studios | Bad Racket

Cleveland's Craft Recording Space

“They made the best of what they could afford, often resulting in tremendous creativity.”

That’s a quote from Bob Ohlsson, the grandaddy of Motown. It represents our situation both accurately & flatteringly. We try to live up to it.

ADAM WAGNER

Cleveland Recording Studios Bad Racket

I like listening to music and I especially like helping people make music. Working with the wonderful artists who have walked in our door the past year has been a real joy.

The music that has stuck with me over the years has two qualities that are probably only important to audio engineers, but listen up anyway: I get a sense of when and where the music was created and performed, and I think theses senses heighten music’s ability to transport us to other places & times.

Okay, basically, I don’t like music that has been cleansed of it’s space & time. I want to hear a little human in my tunes. I love to tinker, and enjoy combining painstaking attention to detail with willy-nilly spontaneity. I want to make recordings that sounds like you at your best.

JAMES KANANEN

Cleveland Recording Studios Bad Racket

Drawing from his experience at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences and a background deeply rooted in music and the arts; James currently works at the Grog Shop as a live sound engineer. With literally thousands of hours operating a mixing board mixing international touring acts and locals alike, James draws parallels between his job and the equipment he operates. “The artist is the painter, I am the brush…I strive to capture the vision of the sound in the only way I know how, honestly, with attention to detail, ruthlessly defending the perspective of the performer.”

THOMAS FOX

Cleveland Recording Studios Bad Racket

Thomas makes things happen for the studio and the musicians that walk through the door. He shares insight from formal analog audio training, assisting in production with an honest critical ear. There’s so much noise and so much bullshit out there that it’s hard for talented people to break through. Sometimes people give up when beaten down by a ruthlessly competitive industry. It doesn’t need to be so cold. Musicians create sounds that connect us to moments in time that we want to live over and over again. That’s worth a fight. Thomas is guilty of pouring love and affection all over anyone that makes hearts and feet beat, doing whatever he can to make the music play.

AARON FREEDER

Aaron’s a fast director and film maker from Cleveland Ohio with a passion for highly energetic music videos. He’s been making films his entire life, but also studies film and media production in New York. The Live From Bad Racket video series came to be what it is under his creative direction on set, in the studio, and in the editing room. He is always adapting with the latest cinematic tricks and toys, which adds something new to his evolving work. There is a certain amount of craziness that comes from a Bad Racket session that keep Aaron’s videos fresh and exciting, it’s all in a night’s work.
