Creating your first song together with me the producer can be fun. My name is James Kananen, I’m a producer and songwriter, and artist with a hands on approach, I’ve written and produced tracks for countless artists, some you probably have heard of others you haven’t. I’m excited to bring brand new original songs from scratch to life.

I’m ready to take you from the beginning ideas to the finished mixed and mastered track ready to be uploaded and distributed.

In the past couple of years i’ve been fortunate enough to work with many different artists, so I know there’s no standard approach to anything, but there are some skills I have fine tuned over the years, I can help you with anything from arrangement to mastering finished polished tracks.

Let’s produce a brand new song completely from scratch together, whether using an already created instrumental, lyrical content, or developing fresh musical ideas. I can help you take your project from rough cut demos to editing, mixing and mastering. Along the way I can explain every step. Together we’ll follow the creative process side by side comparing ideas, trying new ideas, or bringing back classic sounds. By the time you leave the studio, you’ll have at least 1 or two songs of your own you can evaluate, release and  proudly sharing on social media, spotify itunes, the radio etc.

I have a start to finish process to producing music and its simple. As I write and produce a song, I help make decisions that will change how the songs feels in the end. It starts with you the artist. I’m opening up my studio to collaborate with artists who want to produce amazing tracks from amazing ideas. I am comfortable with many roles, and can help you at any stage make the right decision to make your song a success.  Everyone has different skills, songwriters, musicians, studio engineers, we can help with creative as well as technical expertise at any stage of the process, from writing to uploading and getting paid.

We’d all just love to record and make wonderful music all day, but great music doesn’t always just happen, It takes a lot of work doing administrative , planning and missing important steps can leave your music in the dust.

Your music is your identity and if you make the wrong decision you can end up embarrassed or feeling like your idea could have been represented better.  That’s OK, we live, we learn, and we explore new ideas and approaches all the time.

I have many skills, and I am flexible doing a little or a lot, it’s YOUR time, I’m willing to provide helpful advice to anyone who will listen, and it’s up to YOU to decide who you want to listen to. It seems like everyone wants to tell you what to do, but you just wanna be you, and we love YOU for the unique person you are.

Music instrumental, beat making, and song structure can be an important parts of organizing your thoughts. While song songs are a long story, ballad, format, many modern pop songs and songs you like probably have a intro chorus, verse, bridge, chorus verse format or something like that. Defining those parts early on is important to zeroing in on what’s working and what isn’t. A lot of time, thoughts loop back around in a clever fashion, or imagery or language repeats itself. What are the main themes and types of things that will be incorporated into the lyrical content, any solos or instrumental parts you make have in mind.

Chord Chord.com is a cool website, loops, or a musical instrumental you are familiar are all great tools to begin experimenting with chords you like. Chord AI or Apps can be used to identify cool chords and transitions that well help drive the melody or main top line of the song.

Melodic Development and Top Lines

Developing an idea that flows through the song as the main lyrical driver can be fun once the main structure and tempo of the song is laid out. You can use your voice, and instruments to create a melodic idea that helps link the chord progressions together. Developing the rhythm as well as the notes that will become the final song is a lot about practice and repetition. As you keep repeating the lines and lyrics, you further refine and become more comfortable with the rhythm and vibe of how the song will be.

You can write down lyrics, but without really getting comfortable with the song, it will just sound like you are reading off the page.

Singing and performing is all about creating emotional connection, so don’t be afraid really put your own character and personal spice on the lyrics. A

An amazing studio, microphone, and great production cant make a terrible song if not working with developed ideas that arent just canned chords, you need creative melodies and lyrical ideas to hold the song together and link all the parts together. Try pocketing instruments without losing the human feel. Song dynamics and polish: mixing and mastering can help finalize  and organize the sounds.
