Back in the 1980s, studio had ISDN lines installed at 64kbps with special equipment to transmit and receive audio. Now with internet speeds of 25MBPS being 25000 kbps, we can achieve a much higher level of connectivity without the need for costly equipment or support from phone companies. In the last few years, we have lost the ability to have ISDN in our area, so we are using Source Connect as an alternative. There are many other internet based solutions to this problem of ISND becoming obsolete. We have the added risk of connectivity problems if internet access goes out, but by using a dedicated line, and not using wifi connectivity on the studio computer, we avoid having bandwidth problems. Even with 25MBPS downstream and 1MBPS Up, we have more than 7 times the bandwidth of ISDN. With 100MPS up and down we have 781 times the bandwidth of ISDN, barring a power interruption, or internet outage, we hae and excellent sounding solution without the implementation of ISDN.
