The short answer is Both,

A system made up of a quality analog front end, and cleanest most flexible digital processing on the back end.

We have an Otari Mx-55 mixdown deck and it rocks! Also Fostex model 3180 spring reverb unit and many different vintage API and Neve style preamps and compressors and effects too! We can mix the whole thing down to tape and you can hear the difference for yourself. It sounds pretty good! On the other hand, as much you may like the idea of analog recording, and as much as we would love to play around with our analog toys, the reality is that these types of things are a lot slower than using the computer to mix it all. Today’s modern recording software is much better than it was in the beginning and is more flexible and cheaper than analog gear. We understand that many people are on a tight budget, and we can achieve great results with using software tools to affect the audio in a way that closely matches the effect of tape.

The big record companies that once paid for lots of recording studio time are spending less and less. Most projects are funded by peoples checkbooks, not a record label.
