Music Recording Software and File Transfer in the Studio
“”What kind of music recording software do you use?” is a question people ask us all the time. Do you use Pro Tools? The short answer is we use Apple Logic because we use a Mac. We could run Pro Tools, Reaper, Reason, Ableton Live, Fruity Loops, Cubase, but we’ve found that for the most part all digital recording programs sound the same, and the basic features are all the same, but Logic has been programmed specifically for Mac and our engineers have the more experience with Logic than Pro Tools. We can move freely between Logic and whatever DAW you use easiest if you render your tracks all out with the same start point. This way we can just drop your files in all at the same time and not have to worry about where all the little pieces go.
An easy way to do this in Pro Tools is to select all your tracks add Audio Suite Gain to each track and select “create continuous file” and hit Process. Wait for it to finish, then look in the audio files folder. Select all the tracks you just made and put them. An easy way to send them to us for mixing is wetransfer.com They send files up to 2GB. Music recording software like Pro Tools and Logic and Reason can be used to record music or record commercial voice over. We used to use Pro Tools HDX system with HD converters and 192k sample rate but we found the less data obtrusive method of Logic with decent preamps and a decent ear. Never mind a creative mind, this sterile Pro Tools system has live tracking and recording, and is an excellent choice for the most complex recording sessions in the most comfortable space.
