Common Audio Problems and How to fix them
Crackling and distortion
Crackling or distortion can be caused by a number of things, but usually its too high level somewhere in the chain between the microphone and the converters. It can be minimized, but generally, its difficult to remove. Cracks and Pops have algorithms that can remove them as well, as well as any background noise can usually be removed as well.
Bad Fade or Cut
If its a bad fade or cut, its usually pretty bad news for your recording if it can’t be undone. Sometimes things can be stretched or moved a bit but if you miss a punch or your audio isnt lined up right you need to fix it.
Equalization balance
Sometimes audio will have a weird EQ balance. Sometimes its a room resonance, or the way it was mix might have sounded different on a different monitoring system (like headphones). But usually it can be corrected.
Dynamics adjustment
Dynamics can be adjusted for overall volume. Once its “blown up big” it cant go back down though its just kinda stuck a blown up like a balloon that cant be popped. How much loudness you want is up to you, but we can recommend a professional level for radio, TV, or even general recording. You don’t want the sound too loud or jarring, but you want to be able to hear every detail.
Loudness and Fade In’s Fade Out
As we adjust the loudness we also can adjust the fade ins and fade outs of each song as well as adjust the timing between songs. In general we use WAV files, but we can adjust the technical specification depending on your intended distribution.
Technical Specification error
We can do 16 but 44.1k or 24 bit 96k sample rate. Usually people want CD-Quality, which is a lossless format at 44.1k 16bit. Otherwise we occasionally do 48k or 88.2 but never above 96k. Thats ridiculous. The nyquist theorem and science can prove it unnecessary.
